Dropping off or picking up at Gatwick: what to expect

Drop off. At both North and South Terminal, cars drop passengers at the forecourt drop-off zone outside departures. Since January 2026 it costs £10 for the first 10 minutes, then £1 a minute, with a 30-minute maximum. There is no barrier and no machine: number-plate cameras record the car, and the charge must be paid online by midnight the day after — miss it and a £100 Parking Charge Notice follows (reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days). Dropping off in the Long Stay car parks is free.

Pick up. Cars cannot wait outside arrivals. Whoever collects you either parks in the Short Stay car park and walks in to meet you, uses the Express Pick Up bays in the Short Stay car parks — staying with the car — or waits for free in the Long Stay car park, up to two hours, while you take the shuttle bus to them. If your flight lands early or late, or passport control is slow, the Short Stay bill keeps growing.
