One of the fastest airports in Europe to clear. Name board included.
If your descent into London City felt a little sharper than other flights, that wasn't your imagination. Surrounded by the towers of Canary Wharf, London City requires aircraft to fly one of the steepest approaches of any commercial airport in Europe — a 5.5° descent, nearly double the usual 3°, and only a handful of aircraft worldwide are certified to fly it. It's also why the runway feels short: at under 1,600 metres, there's no room for a shallow glide in.
London City is also the only London airport served directly by the Docklands Light Railway, and it sits right on the Thames — one of the more scenic final approaches into any capital city. For a business traveller landing for a meeting, that novelty is nice, but what matters more is what happens next: your driver, already positioned, already watching your flight, waiting the moment you clear customs.
"Flew in for a 10am meeting in Canary Wharf with barely any buffer. Driver was right there when I came through, and we were pulling up outside the office in under 15 minutes. Didn't think that was possible."
